Does re-injected water affect the water table?
Reinjection may only occur in wells that have been approved by the OGC as disposal wells. The OGC stringently reviews all disposal well applications. Companies must isolate the subsurface disposal areas from potential groundwater zones and prove that these disposal areas can contain the anticipated volumes of re-injected water. To protect drinking water from possible cross-contamination, all disposal wells are lined with steel casing that is cemented into the well bore, ensuring that it does not interact with aquifers.
