Does rap music promote violence to youth?
To say that rap music, as a whole, promotes illicit behaviours is irrational, irresponsible and stereotypical. This very question has been repeatedly asked in the 80’s, 90’s and 00’s about Rap music. But then again, it has been asked about rock music too, in the 50’s, to present, but has been overshadowed by a more sinister music… gangster rap. Yes, there are certain types of rap that promote and glamorise violence, gang activity, drug usage, prostitution and other illicit behaviour; but at the same time, there are certain types of rap music that have a positive influence or are just plain fun too. You have to take the good with the bad, and just weed out all the crap. To prove my point here is a list of Rap music with no negative consequences and is just good fun: Whistle: Just Buggin’ LL Cool J: Rock The Bells Joeski Love: Pee Wee’s Dance Soul Sonic Force: Planet Rock Spyder D: Smerphies Dance Royalcash: Radio Activity Twilight 22: Electric Kingdom Boogie Boys: A Fly Girl Sugarhill
