Bear this in mind also if you are about to buy a new computer. I can’t really say whether portable DVD players are worthwhile for you; personally, I find the screens too small and the process of watching films on them rather muted and a bit lonely! I’m also against giving them to children to watch DVDs on at home, as I just don’t think it’s very social or inclusive. That said, there have been times, driving down the motorway with my child screaming, when I would have paid good money for one to entertain her. I think they make sense for certain times – maybe for holidays and long journeys. The sound quality on portable DVDs is better if you listen to the film on headphones. Here are a few things to think about: will it be one person watching at a time or two? If two, you must get one with two headphone sockets. Also
