Does Protection PLUS support Microsoft Windows 2000?
All users of an application with registry-based License Files and/or registry-based License File Aliases must be in the Power Users group. This is equivalent to the Users group in Windows NT 4. When you install a fresh copy of Windows 2000 (as opposed to upgrading from a previous version of Windows), the registry security is more restrictive for users that are not in the Power Users group. When you add a user, Windows 2000 gives you an option of a “standard user” or a “restricted user.” The “standard user” is a Power User, which provides the same security settings as an NT4 User. Therefore, unless the accounts that run your software are Restricted users, you shouldn’t have a problem. Applications using EZ Trial that maintain License File Aliases in the registry will continue to work, but will not be able to update the aliases unless the user is in the Power Users group. This restriction affects all applications, not just PLUS.
