Does Proactive solution really work for acne?
Okay. So acne is caused by sebaceous glands in the skin producing too much oil, pores being clogged by dead skin cells, and bacteria growing in the blocked pore. Treating acne requires treating one or more of these factors. Proactiv uses benzoyl peroxide. Benzoyl peroxide causes the skin to peel, clearing away clogged pores, and it also kills bacteria, so it is relatively effective against acne. But it is a bleaching agent (so keep it away from towels) and it can irritate some skin. Proactiv’s Renewing Cleanser has benzoyl peroxide. But it also has beads that are claimed to exfoliate your skin. That will not help with acne, in which the pores are blocked with skin cells that normally line the pore, not skin cells from the surface. The Revitalizing Toner is simply an alcohol solution, which would have no effect on acne. It removes surface oil, but the oil in question is inside the pore.
