Does Proactiv® also clear blackheads and whiteheads?
Yes, the combination of medicines found in Proactiv work together to fight both blackheads and whiteheads. Blackheads and whiteheads are the earliest forms of blemishes and occur when excess oil and dead skin cells combine to form a plug inside the pore. If the plugged pore stays under the skin, it’s called a closed comedo and is visible as a white bump or whitehead. If it rises up toward the skin’s surface, dilating the pore, it’s called an open comedo. These are commonly referred to as blackheads (with a blackish color caused by skin pigment and oxidized oil, not dirt). The first step in Proactiv’s Combination Therapy® is to loosen up the plug, unblocking the pore. Once the pore is clear, the benzoyl peroxide medicine in the Renewing Cleanser and the Repairing Treatment destroys the bacteria that cause an inflamed pimple.
