Does Primary Maths in Action include teaching materials for Problem solving and enquiry?
Yes! This important aspect of the 5-14 Guidelines is addressed in several ways in PMiA. There are four discrete problem solving and enquiry units, one at the end of each block. These contain problems relating to the content of the block of work that has just been completed. Resource sheets for each problem are included in the Resource Book. The teacher’s notes suggest ways of introducing the problem and the most effective strategies for solving it. Integrated throughout the units are Challenges and Investigations, which provide regular opportunities for pupils to use their problem solving and enquiry skills.
