Does President Bushs administration fund ESCR?
On August 9, 2001, President Bush announced a policy to allow federal funding on EScells that were derived from human embryos that had been previously destroyed. This was the first time federal funds were allowed for human ESCR. Specifically, human EScells created before August 9, 2001 are eligible for federal funding. Currently, 78 EScell lines are eligible for funding, and 22 of those currently receive federal funds. This decision did not ban or restrict ESCR in the private sector.
