Does President Bush at least suspect how history will judge him?
He used to mention his “legacy” and it was no secret that he wanted to be remembered as the President who ousted Hussein and brought freedom to the Middle East, at least that was the image he wanted to project. In reality, if he really cared about his legacy, he would have been a lot more cautious with his decisions, and made damn sure to represent the will of the American people when he made them. Now I think it’s pretty obvious that he doesn’t give a damn about how history judges him. He just wants to help his buddies and his dad’s buddies get richer, and retire to a life of laziness and apathy.
Not all people care about history. Bush is a spolied child that never matured who wants to continue living a prosperous life without a shred of concern for others. It’s what he was raised to believe and it’s what he will die believing. Recently, a member of PETA desecrated ‘Colonel’ Sanders grave for the crimes he commited. This ended-up being a negative publicity stunt for the entire organization but does KFC care?–no. It would come as no surprise to me if a similar stunt will be targeted at Bush, (though not by PETA). Will it make any difference?–no. Infamy only prevails in the indifference of good men…that is why nothing will change for a very long time…if ever.
President Bush believes the world will judge him differently in 100 years. There is some basis in fact for this belief. Abraham Lincoln was the most hated president in history at his present time. All over the country there were parties celebrating his assassination. He was much more hated then than Bush is today. But, today, Abraham is considered perhaps the greatest president in history. He has a monument in DC. Bush feels that in the long run history will see the wisdom of what he has done. Only time will tell if he is right.
