Does prednisone use/withdrawal cause fibromyalgia?
I had to use high doses of prednisone for a pseudotumor behind my eye. I used it for five months and after being weaned from it I started experiencing extremely painful joints muscle aches in my wrists, fingers, hips, knees, ankles and on the bottom of my feet. I was referred to a rheumatologist who diagnosed me with fibromyalgia. I tested negative for lupus and arthritis. Anyone familiar with either prednisone or fibromyalgia? Not likely. If anything Prednisone was masking symptoms that you already had while taking it. Once you got off prednisone, you started noticing those symptoms because prednisone is no longer affecting it. They use prednisone to treat Fibromyalgia. If you were on pain medicine such as Loratab, Darvocet, perkocett, etc. they can cause you to be in pain once you stop taking them. But Prednisone is a steroid and would not cause pain after being weaned off.
