Does poverty affect specifically black Americans?
Poverty is an epidemic that effects all races in the United States. It is found at every level. In the South you may have a higher preponderance of African Americans living in poverty, in the west it may be Latinos. Midwest you will find a lot of whites. North you have a lot of Native Americans. There is not a set formula for who poverty will strike.
No in the US 1% of the people have a majority of the money and then maybe 40% think they have money, yet are in major credit card debt and live pay check to paycheck. The rest of the people… well it doesnt matter what your color is in the USA people can live in poor areas no matter who you are. I know more rich black people than I do white rich people.
Poverty in America doesn’t mean quite the same thing as it does in other places. About 70% of those in poverty in America own a car. 90% have a television. While the highest poverty rates are among blacks, their rate is still low. 60% of black households make over $25,000 a year and 32% make over $50,000 a year. In 2006, the poverty rate for blacks was 24%, very near a record low. Only three years in the last 25 had lower rates for blacks.
