Does posting a CUSSP sticker mean that I will have to offer counselling?
Not at all. This program is designed to identify people and offices at Carleton that are safe towards the GLBTQ community. Most people will not be looking for counselling but may need the support of a GLBTQ Ally. If the conversation is more than you are qualified to deal with, feel free to refer the person to one of the resources that can be found on the referral sheet that is distributed in your CUSSP package. If I post the Ally Yes, it is possible that someone may think you identify as a member of this community. However, as an ally you will be comfortable explaining to a person that you do or do not identify as a member of this community. One of the goals of this program is to make this question irrelevant so that questioning and confusion around sexual and gender orientation is not an issue in our community. The important point to stress is that you are a visible and outspoken member of the Carleton community who is a supporter and ally of those who identify as GLBTQ.
