Postgres is an experimental relational database management system developed at UC Berkeley. It is intended to demonstrate how object oriented data management can be accomplished without discarding the relational model. The project is directed by Professor Michael Stonebraker, one of the originators of Ingres. Postgres is a spiritual descendent of University Ingres but is not truly related to INGRES.
