Does politically correct “tolerance” devalue human worth?
Tragically, society has deemed it taboo to discuss absolute truth or to even assume such exists. Society prides itself on accepting a variety of beliefs and truth claims. Truth has become less important than accepting that another’s belief is just as valid as anyone else’s. Our culture has sold out to complacency and relativism. “Tolerance” has become the buzzword of the secular and theologically liberal movements. Have we stopped to think what this tolerance really accomplishes? Intolerant demands of tolerance, in reality, devalue human worth. What does it mean to devalue human worth? Human worth is the value placed on our nature of being. In other words, it is the value placed on what makes us who we are. Is this value absolute or is this value subject to the whims fallen man? How could tolerance devalue this worth?
