Does paying off a collection account mean it is going to disappear?

0

Absolutely not, in fact sometimes paying a collection off can make your reports even more negative. This is not to say that paying off an account is not acceptable but you should clear this with your counselor before you pay any accounts off that are negative. You may pay off any and all accounts that are being paid on and are in good standing. Paying them off will actually help your scores but don’t do anything with any of your negative accounts that have gone to collections or have been charged off.
