Does Palo Alto give away free smoke alarms to replace existing ionization alarms?
The Palo Alto Fire Department relies on donations to provide smoke alarms to low income households or households of persons with disabilities or with other difficulties providing alarms for themselves. At this time, we do not have a supply of smoke alarms available to distribute. If you would like to donate new photoelectric alarms to the Palo Alto Fire Department for this program, please contact Acting Fire Marshal Gordon Simpkinson at 650-329-2347 or email fire@cityofpaloalto.org. Batteries can be disposed of curbside in Ziploc bags for single family dwellings. For multi-family dwellings, Check with your landlord to see if they have a collection program, or take household batteries to the Recycle Yard. If you have any questions about smoke alarms, or any fire prevention issue, please contact Acting Fire Marshal Gordon Simpkinson at 650-329-2347, or email fire@cityofpaloalto.org.
