Does organic mulch really improve landscape soil?
Yes, this really happens, although it will likely take many years of organic mulching to improve the heavy clay soils that we have in Roanoke. As an example, we have been in our same house in Roanoke for 27 years and the soil under some of the mulched areas in our landscape have only now become darker and more easily turned. Of course, yearly organic mulching has many immediate benefits that have been bragged about for years in horticultural publications and media pieces. My favorite one is the beauty and orderliness that fresh organic mulch gives.
