Yes, one needs to master grammar in order to write a good piece. It can’t be conveyed very well if it’s poorly written. Nobody wants to read a poem, story, article, etc., that’s full of grammatical errors. Poor grammar is a turnoff, especially for people who like to read. Bad grammar makes the writer look careless and uneducated.
