Ken Spellman: We don’t have a whole lot of youth options. We have teamed with local nonprofits. We participate-and it’s either a seven day or three-day community service project-with our local postsecondary institution. It’s a four-year college at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, where we’ll collaborate with primarily their construction students. We will go out and work with nonprofit organizations during that seven days of service. We’re looking at having a service learning requirement as part of our graduation process, but that’s just in draft form right now. Is there any evidence that Programs of Study undermine liberal education requirements in community college? For example, might they allow someone to get a business-related credential without an associate’s degree? Kim Green: I think that the notion of a Program of Study is to allow a student to have options.
