Does Oleanz cause breathlessness in elderly females?
A. Oleanz (olanzapine) is to be given only to cases of schizophrenia and acute manic episodes. In elderly patients with dementia related psychosis, the efficacy of Oleanz has not been established. The death rate in elderly patients (over the age of 80 years) treated with Oleanz is approximately 225% more compared to similar patients not given the drug. The drug can cause pneumonia in elderly patients. It should be given with great caution to elderly female patients, if at all it is prescribed.
