Does numbing gel used at the dentist work?
Numbing gel is a type of local anaesthetic used merely to numb the area where the dentist will put the needle. It’s very similar to bonjela and things like that (I have been given bonjela as a numbing gel before, for a tooth abcess), so if you want to check if it will work then that might be a good indicator. It is true that it doesn’t work on some people, but if I were you I’d be more worried about the anaesthetic in the needle than in the gel. My mother is severely allergic to local anaesthetic and I’m completely immune to the kind you get injected (which made for a VERY painful procedure a few years ago …) but the gel seems to work on me a bit. If you’re worried the same might happen to you then you shouldn’t, unless you’re directly related to someone with such an allergy (if you are then let your dentist know!!). The only thing you really need to worry about is the taste – it is FOUL 😛 Fillings themselves are a very easy thing; you get given the gel, then about ten minutes later
