Does North Koreas Missile Test Represent a Real Threat to the United States?
The recent North Korean missile launch, allegedly to put a satellite in orbit, seemed to fizzle into nothing-the rocket crashing harmlessly into the ocean. The Iranians seemed to be further ahead than the Koreans with putting a satellite into orbit, and a new launch to put a satellite higher into orbit. North Korea, the exporter of a lot of missile and weapons technology, seem to not be able to get their own missiles high into orbit. Although, admittedly, the whole concept of putting a satellite into orbit seems to be more of a ruse by the North Koreans, the missile did travel a considerable distance, but by most standards was an utter failure. The autocractic despot of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (North Korea), Kim Jong-il, seems to be more of a spoiled, aging brat doing such launches to get Western attention put onto his financially-strapped and beleagured republic, to get huge aid dividends from the West.
