(Colin Holmes) Yes and no. NIfTI-1 can act as a conduit for image data (only) being exchanged between programs in an analysis sequence. It does not provide for the long-term and complete storage of image and metadata and associated computed results (e.g., surfaces) that is necessary to provide for the complete and robust preservation of data for historical, archival or full-fledged interlaboratory exchange of neuroimaging data.
