It would depend on your initial salary and your tax braket. Generally most 1st world countries have a tax system that follows the simple guide here: Earnings Between – Tax band Amount A and Amount B – Band 1 Amount B and Amount C – Band 2 Amount C and Amount D – Band 3 Over Amount D – Band 4 Also, if you earn between B and C but only just over B then you will pay Band 1 for most of your cheque, but band 2 for the little bit that is over Amount B.
