Does my OB-GYN have to deliver my baby?

You should ask your doctor this. He may be able to recommend someone to deliver your baby at the hospital you plan to deliver at, rather than just rolling the dice and getting whoever’s around when you show up.

To my understanding the local hospital will have their on call ob/gyn deliver you. Usually there are certain specifics that a doctor has to do to deliver at different hospitals other than his/her local one. I would talk to your doctor about this. If you like him/her very much I would definintely consider making the drive for them to deliver you. I wouldn’t want just any old ob delivering me at a birthing center that you are not familiar with. Good Luck!!!

Your regular OB does not have to deliver your baby. If he isn’t available, any on-call doctor at the hospital will do it. (Or, if it’s a very small hospital, any available doctor or nurse could do it.

if your doctor knew you werent planning on delivering with him be probably wouldnt do your check ups. a main reason is that you will need to bond with the person who is going to deliver your baby so you two trust and know each other a bit. I found out at 27 weeks that the nurse practitioners who i had seen all through out my pregnancy wouldnt be delivering my baby and the obs only do emergency checkups or things of that nature so i stopped going to that office.I found a midwife group that would take me and i went there so i could actually bond with them. believe me i dont think anyone would be very comfortable with a stranger delivering your baby .good luck!

Yes you’ll just get whatever doctor in on call for that night at your local hospital. Just so you know and hour is plenty of time to get to the hospital as long as you go as soon as you think your in labor.
