Does my mum have blood poisoning please help im scared?
From the little I know ( I work in a medical practice-not a doc or anything though) blood poisoning will usually have visible signs, especially if it’s from the hand/arm. There is a large vein that runs up the arm that will gradually go red all the way up the arm of the affected limb. If this is happening it’s a good (bad) sign of blood poisoning. Also fever is usually present. From what you’ve said it doesn’t sound like blood poisoning – the black spot will likely be blood (even if the bite didn’t bleed blood will pool under the bite site, sometimes it looks black due to a reaction with oxygen) and the red around it is pretty normal for any type of skin puncture. But cats mouths have plenty of nasty germs and a tetnus shot is a must if you mum hasn’t had one in the last 7 or so years. Otherwise she should keep it clean and disinfected and keep an eye out for any changes. Blood poisoning from a bite like this is pretty unusual.
