Does my indoor cat really need another rabies shot?
Most have enough titers in their blood that they’re protected for far longer than one year. There’s a 3 year shot avialable on the market, ask which one your vet uses. By law all animals need a rabies shot, however ill or sick cats don’t get shots because they’d do more harm than good–a vet can refuse to vaccinate a cat on these grounds and you’re legally ok on that count. Think on this–WE get vaccinated and it lasts a lifetime after the one shot, with the exception of the tetanus shot. Findings for pets is that they’re immune as well, and that frequent vaccinations don’t offer much added protection after the first shot is given. There are titers tests (they check the blood and look for the protection from the vaccine) that show one shot is good for over 8 years in pets.
