Does my employer have to pay unapproved overtime?

0

An employer can require employees to obtain approval prior to working overtime and can prohibit employees from working overtime without authorization. Technically, if you push the issue, they must pay you for the hours you actually worked, including overtime, but they can also fire you for not leaving work after 8 hours on any day for which you did not have overtime approval.

If they let you work the overtime, approved or not, federal law requires that they pay you for it. They can’t legally just adjust the clock in and out times if they are accurate. BUT – if you work unapproved overtime, they could fire you for it.

I think it is illegal to adjust someones time on the time clock. This happened to me last week I had to cover for someone I took longer lunches and still ended up having my time docked 15 minutes. Then I was told later to take a 15 minute break on the clock. If you find out for sure let me know. You are supposed to be payed for hours worked. What are the circumstances of you going into overtime? Our work policy sound similar.
