Does my Academic Volume Licence Agreement cover the full Windows operating system?
One important thing to know about Academic Volume Licensing Agreements is that they never cover the initial full Windows operating system licence. Academic Volume Licence Agreements only cover Windows operating system upgrade licences. Windows upgrades are designed to upgrade previously acquired full version Windows licences. A full Windows operating system licence can only be acquired when you purchase a new PC, or certain hardware, or via the retail channel.A benefit for academic institutions that have purchased the Windows Upgrade licence in their Campus/School/Select agreement is the eligibility to upgrade to the Professional Version of Windows from the Home Edition. For example, this means their institution can purchase a new computer with the Windows XP Home Edition and then upgrade the operating system to Windows XP Professional Edition. Academic versions of a full Windows operating system do not exist.
