Does music have any kind of effect in the development of a person?
Research about in utero exposure to music is mostly anecdotal, and inconclusive. Exposing an infant to classical music is rumored to improve their mathematical skills, but that is mostly based on invalid extrapolation of the results of an investigation involving college students rather than infants. Listening to any kind of music is of developmental value in providing an increased range of stimuli in the environment. http://www.askbaby.com/music-and-development.htm There has been some serious research into the area, which claims that it “has also demonstrated that music training in children results in long-term enhancement of visualspatial, verbal, and mathematical performance.” Note that this is training, not just listening!
