Does morphine sulfate stop a chronic cough?
My experience as a sufferer for 17 years is that morphine sulphate (20 mgs. a day) can help to reduce the cough. I have also found that I slept better on morphine. After taking it for 18 months I recently came off it. Two weeks later, my cough is worse and I’ve woken up in the middle of every night and started to cough. So today, I’m going back to the doctor to ask for another prescription. I’ve read extensively about the possible side-effects etc. online, but as far as I’m concerned, any small risk is worth it for the improved quality of life that the morphine will bring. If you’re interested, I have a blog about persistent coughs which can be found here: http://coughup.blogspot.
