Does Mn/DOT have maintenance policies or practices for re-painting, sanding, replacement, graffiti removal, etc?
Mn/DOT does not have any policies on maintenance of noise walls and does not currently have a replacement schedule. Mn/DOT indicated that they are aware a policy is needed, as many noise walls are beginning to reach the end of their useful life. Mn/DOT indicated they soon will begin the process of developing a policy and expect to have it in place within two to three years. Mn/DOT does not have a formal policy for graffiti removal; however, it is generally performed within one week of detection. If the nature of the graffiti is deemed offensive, removal efforts will be quicker, usually the same day. Mn/DOT has a summer graffiti removal crew. During winter months, Mn/DOT uses plow drivers for graffiti removal as they are available, but generally removal efforts are still within one week of detection.
