Does metformin help PCOS related infertility?

I have been diagnosed with PCOS. I have no characteristic signs (excess hair, obesity, insulin-resistance) except for absence of periods and occasional break-outs. My RE had me on 3 cycles of Clomid with no ovulation. Now I’m on my 1st cycle of injectables cycle day 10 with lots of follicles but hardly any growth. I’ve heard that metformin helps PCOS people ovulate normally and I’m wondering if I should suggest this to my RE before I go broke?
