Does Mayor Michael Bloomberg Deserve a Third Term?
Independent New York mayor Michael Bloomberg is attempting to do something interesting in 2009. Bloomberg is seeking to become the city of New York’s mayor for a third term. Traditionally, a mayor may only serve two terms. However, Bloomberg specifically asked for permission from the courts to run for mayor for a third term, due to what he sees as extenuating circumstances relating to the city of New York. The city’s budget is facing a crisis that it’s never faced before. Bloomberg has attempted to counter that by raising things like taxes and fares through the MTA, but it simply hasn’t been enough. In the face of our national real estate crisis, the city is put even more at risk with the possibility of foreclosures on both the residential side and the commercial side of things. Does this mean that Bloomberg should be permitted a third term?
