Yes, it does. If you want to use ProTools hardware such as an Mbox or Digi 001 with OS 9, you’ll need to put the Digidesign DirectIO ASIO driver in your ASIO drivers folder. If you’re using OS X, you’ll need the Digidesign CoreAudio driver. On Windows, MaxMSP uses the Digidesign ASIO driver.
