Does Magic DNS substitute the antivirus software?
No, it doesn’t. Magic DNS is able to drastically reduce the risks due to spyware and malware with our filters, but virus threats can come from e-mail messages or by many other ways. Is it possible to prevent clients to use external DNS without having to create non-administrative accounts or have at the same time computer with controlled web browsing and computer with free web browsing? Yes, it is sufficient to restrict access from the client to port 53 (DNS) through the use of a firewall that is generally present on all routers. It’s possible to create a rule “LAN to WAN” allowing access to port 53 from clients who need to browse the web freely, and a rule that prevents access to port 53 from the clients on which you want to use controlled web browsing.
