Yes, Contribute 2.0 and later support SFTP. The Adobe Contribute support web site is here. Make sure you configure Contribute to always use SSH File Transfer Protocol (SFTP) while connecting to host mason.gmu.edu. As of Adobe Contribute release CS3 the SFTP feature is called “Secure FTP (SFTP)” in the Website Connection Information panel of the Connection Wizard. Adobe sometime refers to SFTP as “Secure FTP.” However, normally Secure FTP is FTP over SSL — an entirely different protocol. Help setting up Adobe Contribute for SFTP is available here. Adobe Contribute CS3 does not allow remote file and folder permissions to be modified nor a default permission to be set through the application.
