Yes. Maastricht operates a multi-stack system, allowing it to communicate with both ATN (Aeronautical Telecommunications Network) and FANS (Future Air Navigation Systems) equipped aircraft. Within continental airspace data link via ATN over VDL Mode2 is the technology of choice. Maastricht’s multi-stack gateway allows it, however, to also communicate with FANS aircraft. The infrastructure and equipment on board the aircraft is kept transparent to the air traffic controllers.
