Does LSSI have a commitment to principles of Intellectual Freedom widely shared by other libraries?
As in all other libraries operated by LSSI throughout the U.S., LSSI will operate the Santa Clarita Public Library in accordance with the policies adopted by the library’s public governing board. In all cases, LSSI recommends policies that adhere to the principles of intellectual freedom published by the American Library Association. In all cases, LSSI handles materials challenges by referring the material to the City with an explanation for why the material was selected. In 13 years of operating the Riverside County Library System, despite numerous challenges to materials, no challenge has resulted in an item being pulled from the shelves.
