Ruff keeps his job because – he’s made it to the 3rd round or farther 4x (more than any current NHL coach not named Keenan) – he’s only ever had one year below 0.500 I think Ruff does a great job with the talent he has (his two best defencemen are 35+ (three if you include the 93 yr old Numminen)) and since the person who assembles the talent is Darcy Regier, then maybe Regier needs to go. And the 5/7 thing has happened more than twice… Barry Trotz missed the playoffs 5 straight years and kept his job.
