Does lifting heavier weights burn more calories?
Weight training is an excellent way to burn calories as, unlike CV training, you continue burning calories for a number of hours after training as your body is using energy to repair the damaged muscle fibres. There is no question that CV training improves your VO2 Max and your general fitness but there is a school of thought that weight training is as good as or even better at burning calories than CV training. There is certainly no more efficient way of loosing fat. I would agree that as you lift heavier weights the number of calories you burn will increase, however this will only apply to a point. If you are lifting such heavy weights you are only able to complete 3 sets of 2/3 reps with good form then I would say you will not burn as many calories as you would if you were completing 4 sets of 6-8 reps and reaching failure at the end of the last set. Hope this help and enjoy, training is good!!!
