DOES LIFE BEGIN AT CONCEPTION OR FERTILIZATION?
Does human life begin at conception, or does human life begin at fertilization? Now, to most of you, this would sound like the very same question. As a matter of fact, though, according to todays medical dictionaries, to the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and to the Food & Drug Administration, these are two different questions. You see, these three bodies made a joint decision in the early 1960s that has confused everybody since that time. Let me start by reiterating the simple biologic fact that human life begins when sperm and ovum join. This is called fertilization, and at this point there is a single-cell, but it is a complete, living human body. But lets go back 40 years, when oral contraceptives and intrauterine devices were just becoming widely used.
