Does Lafayettes drinking water contain fluoride?
Lafayette’s drinking water has been treated with fluoride since 1952. The natural fluoride level is adjusted upward to the optimal level (0.90 mg/l) for prevention of tooth decay. Depending on the source, even bottled and mineral waters can contain varying levels of naturally-occurring fluoride. When added or in naturally correct amounts, fluoride poses no known health risk. It does, however, make water unsuitable for use in kidney dialysis machines.
