Does Keflex (Cephalexin) antibiotics cause rosacea flare ups?
I had my first two rosacea flare ups about 18 months ago separated by a couple of months. They seemed to be brought on by late nights out eating pizza and drinking several beers. My rosacea presented itself in the form of severe dry flaky skin which would come off in chunks when I washed my face. It seemed like every person in my public & private life did a double take when they saw me (very depressing). Every cream / lotion / moisturizer I tried seemed to create a waxy build up layer. My episodes lasted about 2 to 2 1/2 weeks and when I finally got in to see a derm he prescribed metrogel and Rosaderm (Na Sulfacetamide 10%). I found the metrogel to be too drying and not really recommended for my symptoms. I stopped after a few weeks because my rosacea had already subsided (due in part I believe to an almost all vegetable, nut, fruit diet to help get my pH in balance).
