Does JBackup back-up open files?
The backup utility will backup open files per se, but it will only transfer the last saved version. For example, let’s assume you have a Microsoft Word document called businessplan.doc saved on your hard drive and you open it to make changes. If, while you are working on the document a backup is scheduled to occur, our software will not backup the open version of the document, only the version that was last saved. On a related note, the same logic applies if you are backing up a database. It will back up the most recent version of the database. With MSAccess for example, as you move from record to record, Access automatically ‘saves’ the database so it will appear to be a newly modified file each time a backup is scheduled (assuming you are making changes to database.) Where this can be problematic is that the backup utility will transfer the entire database each time, even though there may only be a few changed records.
