Does Ivy kill trees?

No the ivy takes all it’s nourishment from the ground and only uses the tree as a prop. Ivy can make smaller trees and bushes such as hawthorn holly and apple top heavy and pull them down so control the ivy here by cutting sections out of some stems. Do the same on trees where ivy has reached the tips of the branches.
