Does it really improve performance, or just increase the rpm during low, or no load conditions?
TOM QUESTION: MORE ON THE SERIES 7 ENGINE Dear Tom & Tim, Have finally returned to the intriguing Series 7 investigation. This is an update as well as a means of documenting what we have been doing in an effort to understand the phenomena. As you may recall, adding air by opening the primer cup valve on the intake manifold smoothes out the engine and significantly increases RPM. After checking the ignition system and finding all well except for a bit of carbon on the plugs I checked to see if an adjustment of the mixture control would produce the same result. Results were negative. Also I decided to instrument the engine with an Auto Analyzer that measures engine speed (RPM?) and to use my new toy, a Raytek Autopro non-contact temperature measurement device. (This is the neatest gadget I’ve found in a long time and it is fun to use on air cooled cars where temperatures are so indicative of performance). After warming up the engine and setting the throttle at a fast idle I adjusted the
