Does it matter which VTRs run at 24 Frame or 30 Frames?
This is a trick question. Of course it matters which VTRs run at 24 or 30 frames. It would be advisable to run decks designed to operate in that mode rather than force a u-matic to run at 24P. The question should be worded which “Ports” rather than “VTRs”. The TLC architecture pairs ports for control. To make the Dual Sync Mode work, port pairs (A-B…) must be defined at either sync rate. There are enough ports to be flexible. The only thing you cannot configure is an odd number of ports per sync rate. There is one guideline for configuring ports. To make a traditional TLC FLEx file as in the 30 frame mode, the first recorder in the event should be a 30 frame deck. It may be advisable to make A and B 30 frame decks and the rest 24.
