Does it make sense to create multiple partitions on a RAID?
Administrators should make this decision based on future upgrade needs and on users’ needs. In the past when I have used ServerMagic, I have always been nervous when I see the warning message that says I won’t be able to boot my server if I resize the boot partition past the 1024 cylinder boundary. I know I do not need to be concerned about this warning since I am running VolumeManager on Windows 2000, but are there any situations I should be aware of where the 1024 cylinder boundary issue might cause problems? The 1024 cylinder boundary issue is usually not a problem in Windows 2000. However, it is a best practice to install applications on a partition or drive other than the system (boot) partition to minimize the size of the system partition. If you are concerned about the 1024 cylinder boundary issue, keep the system partition under the 1024 cylinder boundary (usually below 7.8 GB, depending on the drive’s geometry).
