Does it call for expeditious labour reforms in the country?
Labour reforms are urgently called for. Harmonious industrial relations will pave the way for economic growth and development. The top priority should be to scrap our archaic labour laws and make them more meaningful. The current over-regulatory environment does not give management the right to manage its affairs as per the needs created by market forces. This should be addressed on an urgent basis. Granted that an exit policy without a safety net would not be desirable. We need to work out new models, which can address the legitimate needs of labour and yet achieve higher levels of productivity and value generation. Q: Gurgaon is a major industrial hub.
